The fastest supercomputer in Europe was opened in the German city of Jülich. The new Jupiter system is designed to give a powerful boost to the development of artificial intelligence, modeling and analysis of large data sets, Deutsche Welle reports.

According to the Jülich Research Center, this is the first computer in Europe with a performance of over 1 trillion operations per second, which is comparable to the capacity of about 1 million modern smartphones. The Jupiter complex covers an area of over 2,300 square meters and consists of about 50 container modules. It is currently the fourth fastest supercomputer in the world.

The opening ceremony was attended by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and North Rhine-Westphalia Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst.
