Rumen Hristov: The support of "DPS-New Beginning" is very important for a minority government - 1

The season will be difficult, especially with regard to the adoption of the euro. There will also be resistance, perhaps from pro-Russian forces, but our country also expects many positive changes.

This was told to NOVA by the chairman of the UDF, Rumen Hristov. Hristov expressed the opinion that there is no risk of upheaval for the cabinet in the fifth vote of no confidence.

„We are already used to these votes, so yes, we expect it. It was declared, and such actions are within the right of the opposition. There is no way it will pass, the votes it receives - 135 votes support the government, and 105 are those who are against. It is not enough. And here comes the question - what do we do if this vote passes. What would be the alternative, what will the government be like?”, said Hristov. He stated that the necessary discussions and procedures have already been held, although not without disagreements on certain public issues.

„They reproach us for appointing people too quickly to a given position – for example, the deputy ombudsman. Regarding the Prosecutor General – it was announced some time ago that the old Supreme Judicial Council should not elect a new prosecutor. We are still waiting for a new council to be established, we are trying to have a balance on the issue”, he explained. According to him, it is difficult to point out any losers among the political forces at the moment - because the parliament is currently working, and there is a stable government.

„The support of „DPS-New Beginning” is very important in a situation of a minority government. Perhaps this somewhat institutionalizes the situation, although they do not participate in the government. The colleagues have their arguments on certain issues and the freedom to express them from the podium”, said Hristov and emphasized that rational and measured decision-making is of great importance on the political scene.

„Everyone has their own mission and ideology that must be defended, but when there is no alternative, there must be compromises. We are obliged to work in a coalition and fight for stability”, said Hristov. He identified Daniel Mitov as a good choice for the post of Minister of Internal Affairs and supported his actions as the relevant minister. According to Hristov, there is no possibility of his resignation from the post.
