Tsvetlin Yovchev: Bulgaria can also become the object of provocation from Russia, we are an easy target - 1

I think that this reaction to the recall of Russian Ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was quite necessary and timely, since this was a rather serious provocation. As in this provocation there were two goals - the first is to check what the reaction of NATO partners will be and the second - to check the readiness of Poland's air defense. This was stated in "Osche ut dny" on BNT by former Interior Minister Tsvetlin Yovchev.

"If we talk about today's demarche, I think that the positive thing is that there was immediately a sharp reaction from all NATO member states. The regime in Russia should not have any illusions about what the reaction will be, that it will not be hesitant and will be sharp".

Tsvetlin Yovchev also indicated that in his opinion the results of this provocation are not good for us. In his words, "we are not prepared for modern war". As an example, he cited the air defense of a country like Poland. Even it could not reflect all 19 drones, he added.

In terms of resources, NATO member states (including ours) are not ready for an armed conflict.

"It turned out that the entire EU is not able to produce the necessary ammunition that Ukraine needs to defend itself".

"We urgently need to catch up with these capabilities," Yovchev said. We have enough capacity to produce ammunition, but this is not enough, the former interior minister commented.

The percentage of people who would defend our homeland is not large, he believes, and this is also a serious problem that must find its solution.

"Russia is an extremely serious aggressor who is hostile towards Bulgaria. We can also be the subject of provocation and, God forbid, of an attack. So, from this point of view, things are very serious".

Tsvetlin Yovchev stated that for now "our country is an easy target", so a lot of effort must be made in the coming months.
