Five people received a chance for a new life after transplantation at the Plovdiv University Hospital "St. George". This was announced by the Executive Agency "Medical Supervision".
The donor is a 41-year-old man. The donor situation was implemented by a team from the University Hospital "St. George" - Plovdiv, with coordinator Dr. Doncho Tashkov and his deputy Dr. Emil Mitkovski, news.bg specified.
A medical team from the Urology Clinic at the medical facility, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Plamen Dimitrov, transplanted kidneys to two men - aged 22 and 57. Under the agreement with Romania, a 58-year-old man received a chance for a new life after a liver transplant, due to a lack of a suitable recipient in Bulgaria.
The hospital indicates that the three patients are in good general condition. They remain under medical supervision in intensive care.
At the capital's "Alexandrovska Hospital", two more people received a kidney transplant. The donor is a 51-year-old man who fell into brain death.
The kidneys were transplanted until the early hours of this night to two men with chronic kidney failure, selected with the highest percentage of organ compatibility with the donor out of a total of 7 invited for evaluation from the waiting list.
One recipient is 57 years old from Sofia and has been undergoing hemodialysis treatment for 7 years. The other is 22 years old from Razgrad, on hemodialysis for one year. After the intervention, the patients are recovering in the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Clinic of the hospital. Their condition is stable, with very good vital signs and diuresis.
