The Sofia Court of Appeal left Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev in custody because he could hinder the investigation and influence witnesses.
Regarding the pressure that he claims was exerted on him, his lawyer Ina Lulcheva said that she only knows what he has said publicly.
“Everything else that was said between us is a lawyer's secret and I could not share it“, she pointed out to bTV.
“There should be no speculation about filing signals either, because there are very few people, and very few grounds for us to trust that when If we file a report somewhere, he will be investigated. Even more so when it comes to a person from the opposition. And I, using the topic here, want to return to these two cases, which are currently the focus and which I claim are political. In both cases, there is data from the prosecutor's office - stated to it by inspectors from the Anti-Corruption Commission that a crime was committed. In one case, one of the accused wrote it, in the other case, a witness said it with a request to the prosecutor's office. This is a clear signal“, commented lawyer Lulcheva.
“The evidence is Plamenka Dimitrova and Dian Ivanov. Dian Ivanov said – – – I told a lie“. In law, perjury is punishable. He says – – – I bore perjury“. But there is also a hypothesis - it is written in the law that if you withdraw before your testimony has been used to resolve the case, you are not responsible. That is, the prosecutor's office, at least here, must first give him the opportunity to tell the truth and secondly, it must investigate a crime that it knows about. The prosecutor's office is obliged“, explained lawyer Lulcheva.
“Signals are not investigated when the prosecutor's office has no interest in establishing a crime. There are two lines in which it must react. On the one hand, if it wants to establish the truth in the case, because that is its job. It is not its job to hold the mayor at all costs. Is that right? At least we hope so, although it seems the other way around”, she pointed out.
