The main cause of this tragedy is nature, but there will be an investigation and if there is human error for these floods, it will be found and punished. This was said in the program "Panorama" on BNT by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov in connection with today's floods in the country.
I have ordered inspections and in the event of the slightest violation there will be no compromise, the full severity of the law will be applied to the culprits, he assured.
Asked why the ravines were not cleaned, which is cited as one of the main reasons for the disaster being on such a scale, Ivanov pointed out that this is mainly due to the "timelessness" in Bulgarian politics over the past 4 years.
Caretaker governments and governments of other political forces have alternated, and the institutions have forgotten what they are there for. To date, the priority of this government is to solve such problems and prevent such situations in the future. One of the goals for which this cabinet was created is to stop the timelessness, said the regional minister.
In response to a question about why the "Hemus" highway was not cleaned during today's snowfall, he indicated that there are "extremely serious remarks". Last night until late I had conversations with the management of the RIA about exactly how to act, and today I saw exactly the opposite. The cleaning companies will be fined in the most serious way. I warn that in the event of such a failure to act, disciplinary action will not be delayed, emphasized Ivan Ivanov.
He specified that by October 20, the repairs to the "Trakia" highway, which are causing kilometer-long traffic jams, should be completed.
These repairs are necessary. Everyone felt the effect of what we did in the spring - in the summer, travel was very calm. Now is the time for repairs, not during the tourist season, noted Ivanov.
He also said that the state's short-term measures to solve the problem of water shortages are to allocate funds and for the relevant municipality to repair its water supply network.
