The state will intervene in the garbage crisis in Sofia if its help is sought. This was said by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov after a meeting with Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev and the district mayors of "Lyulin" and "Krasno Selo". According to the Prime Minister, the purpose of the meeting was not to look for causes and consequences of what happened.
"Garbage has no political color, but it pollutes the political environment," commented Zhelyazkov. He added that he had proposed that the state help solve the problems in the capital with a short-term solution.
Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev thanked the Prime Minister and assured that he would not reject help from the state if needed. However, the mayor believes that the situation will normalize within the next week.
He also said that he does not want the topic to be politicized and that a socially acceptable and economically justified result is being sought. Terziev expressed confidence that there is a collective responsibility for a quick solution to the problem.
Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev drew attention to the fact that the state is fully prepared, if requested, to help with equipment and resources. He emphasized that prisoners are working in the Krasno Selo district today, and 10 more people will be sent to "Lyulin" tomorrow.
District mayors Tsveta Nikolaeva and Georgi Todorov expressed confidence that the meeting was important because such problems must be resolved quickly. According to Todorov, there is a need to unite all available resources for a good and welcoming environment, and the topic should not be politicized.
