Dragomir Draganov: Yantra is two meters from overflowing at Krivina - 1

Ruse Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov today toured the most risky sections in the district together with experts from the administration and the mayors of the municipalities in the region. He assured that the level of the rivers and dams in the Ruse region is monitored around the clock and that there is no danger of overflowing.

"The level of the Yantra and Rusenski Lom rivers continues to rise, but they are still far from critical levels," Draganov said after the inspection. According to data from the Regional Security Council, the Yantra River is two meters from overflowing near the village of Krivina. Currently, its level is just over 3 meters, confirmed the regional governor.

There are no other critical areas at this stage, with the exception of the compromised dike of the Nikolovo dam. The situation there continues to be closely monitored, and preventive measures have been taken for the safety of residents.

Draganov commented that there are no settlements in the region without electricity and water. "All institutions are on the ground and there is no reason for unnecessary panic," the regional governor was categorical. He pointed out that the republican road network is passable and there are no flooded areas.

A special hydropump unit of the Regional Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection has been brought to the town of Marten, where nearly 300 acres of land have been flooded. The machine pumps about 500 liters per second from the Marten pumping station and transfers the water to the Danube River. Thanks to this, the water level there has dropped by 10 centimeters, Draganov announced.

24-hour duty is provided at the most risky points, which are located in the lowest parts. From the on-site inspections, the regional governor indicated that the iron bridge near Tsenovo has been compromised. The facility is not used for the passage of cars, but is sometimes used by farmers to transport equipment and animals.

The assistance mechanism under the Interdepartmental Commission for Disasters and Accidents under the Council of Ministers will most likely be activated, Draganov also commented. The situation is also being monitored by Deputy Regional Governor Georgi Georgiev, who is also constantly on the ground.

The situation on the Danube Bridge is also normal and there is no problem with crossing the border between Bulgaria and Romania. The situation in the "Free Zone" region remains complicated, the regional governor noted.
