Plamen Dimitrov: The time of miserable salaries is over - 1

It is becoming increasingly clear that the mantra "we don't touch taxes" does not work. This was said in the show "Face to Face" on BTV by the president of the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions Plamen Dimitrov.

This year, workers will pay 2 billion leva more in income taxes than businesses pay in corporate profit tax. The middle class suffers from this. This is nowhere to be found in the European Union. The state must take at least as much from businesses as from workers, said Dimitrov.

In addition to being unfairly seized, it is already turning out that taxes are also low, because expenses are reaching record levels. Expenditures must be optimized and taxes must be increased where necessary, the president of the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions (CITUB) added.

The union proposes a gradual increase in corporate tax to at least 15%, with an average rate in the eurozone of 22%.

We also propose two new taxes - a tax on financial transactions and a tax on excess profits in the financial sector. These two new taxes can provide an additional 1 billion leva to the budget. The tax conversation must take place, noted Plamen Dimitrov.

According to him, wage levels in many sectors are low, which leads to a revolutionary situation.

This situation cannot last even a year. People will take to the streets. Time is running out for everyone. From now on, everyone must get what they deserve. People who receive miserable wages will not continue to receive them. Salaries should be raised enough so that people can live normally, the unionist stressed. Dimitrov specified that the money for the salary increases could come from tax increases and greater collection.
