Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karadjov put three new "Siemens Smartron" locomotives into operation.

They are part of a contract for the supply of 10 machines worth just over 91 million leva. Thus, the total number of locomotives of this model in the composition of "BDZ - Passenger Transport" becomes 24.

The new machines enter into operation immediately and take up duty in the direction of Burgas and Ruse, BNT explains.

It is interesting that each locomotive has the name of a famous Bulgarian nationalist, and a QR code leads to the BDZ page with more information about the respective person. Karadjov also noted that BDZ is still experiencing difficulties with passenger cars, as of today there are less than 40 cars, and by the end of the year there will be 70.

Options are being discussed to buy or rent 80 new cars next year, and the new cars may reach speeds of up to 160 km/h.

"By Christmas we expect another one, with which we will be able to cover 100% of all fast trains in Bulgaria. It is a dream of Bulgarian Railways to travel with new locomotives that do not catch fire, do not get damaged, do not smoke their transformers. Accordingly, there are fewer delays, they are much more energy-efficient when they move by inertia, returning electricity to the network. A completely modern and green railway transport," Grozdan Karadjov told the media, BNT reported.
