The completion of the "Kyustendil" dam, begun in 1973, is being postponed again - this became clear from the answer of the Minister of Regional Development Ivan Ivanov to a parliamentary question, BNR writes.

Separately, the Municipality of Kyustendil sent a letter to the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works (MRDPW) twice, insisting that financial resources be provided - about 150,000 leva, for redesigning and starting the completion of the site, whose capacity should be about 15 million cubic meters. There is no money for an investigation," the minister said.

The dam wall has been raised to 40 meters, with a design height of 72 meters. Some of the facilities, the spillway tower, have also been built. There is a discharge installed on the side of the wall, which does not stop.

Recently, the MRDPW announced that documentation is being prepared to initiate a procedure under the Public Procurement Act for the selection of a contractor for the inspection of the partially constructed wall of the "Kyustendil" dam and its facilities.

The technical condition and stability of the dam wall must be assessed, as well as whether the facilities in it comply with the current regulations for hydrology of the watershed.

Obviously, after the summer and the water problem in the region are over, the redesign of the "Kyustendil" dam is postponed again, municipal officials comment.

Hydroconstruction specialists warn that the site is also potentially dangerous - in the event of blockage of the downspout and heavy rainfall and the influx of flows from the water supply area, the wall raised to this level may not withstand.

It is included in the List of Reserve Strategic Investment Projects with National Financing for the Period 2025-2028.
