German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful begins a two-day visit to Bulgaria and Romania today, with talks focusing on support for Ukraine and strengthening European security and defense capabilities, DPA reported, citing the Foreign Ministry in Berlin.
The talks will also cover economic cooperation, efforts to boost European competitiveness and the EU's enlargement agenda, according to the same source.
Wadeful had originally planned to start his visit in Athens, where he would meet with his Greek counterpart Georgios Gerapetritis, before continuing to Sofia to meet with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev. However, the visit to Athens was canceled after Gerapetritis left for Egypt to attend the signing ceremony of the Gaza peace plan.
Instead, Vaddeful will travel directly to Bulgaria, and a meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Coiu is scheduled for tomorrow in Bucharest.
