An 18-year-old young man, seriously injured during the flood in Elenite, was rescued after three operations at the University Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment (UMBAL) in Burgas, the press center of the medical facility announced.

The young man was admitted to the hospital wet, without documents, wearing only a T-shirt and shorts, after spending hours in a flooded room in a building in Elenite. His left leg was seriously injured by hard objects and glass, and the wound had already started to become infected from the contaminated water, BTA reports.

"I woke up to the water pouring in through the windows. I tried to escape, but the water element was so strong that it stuck me to the wall. I started getting electrocuted because the water had entered the contacts," Artyom told the doctors at the hospital.

The young man managed to evacuate to a higher floor, where he waited with other people to be rescued. He was later taken by ambulance to Burgas.

His condition required immediate surgery at the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic. Two more surgeries were subsequently performed to control the infection. The doctors managed to save the limb.

Artyom has already been discharged, and his family expressed gratitude to the team of UMBAL-Burgas for the timely intervention, professionalism and humane attitude, the hospital said.
