"What we are seeing right now is a complete blockade of the state. The government and the daily session are not working, the parliament is not working. Information has just come out that the head of the NHIF has taken away all the powers of the deputy head of the Health Fund. We see a struggle for the portions in the state between different groups". This was said by the leader of "We continue the change" Assen Vassilev at a briefing of the PP-DB earlier today, quoted by Focus".
The order of Assoc. Prof. Petko Stefanovski, which revoked the powers of the deputy governor of the institution, Prof. Momchil Mavrov, is from yesterday, October 14. It states that an order of the governor from March this year, in which the powers were regulated, is being canceled.
Part of them is to lead the administration of the NHIF Central Office, by controlling the activities of the directorates for the methodology of medical and dental activities, medicines and dietary foods, medical devices, budget and financial parameters and treatment abroad.
The reason for the withdrawal of Prof. Mavrov's powers has not been officially announced, but it raises additional questions regarding the stability and transparency in the management of the Health Fund. In the context of growing tension in the country, such moves by Assoc. Prof. Stefanovski could cost the Bulgarian healthcare system dearly in a time of political instability.
