Nikolay Nankov: The truck boom is over - 1

The National Toll Administration has imposed sanctions totaling 1,198,200 leva on overloaded trucks in just two days, GERB MP and former regional minister Nikolay Nankov wrote on Facebook.

The phased activation of the so-called scales began on October 15 - sensors built into the asphalt that weigh heavy vehicles over 3.5 tons and submit information to the National Toll Administration in real time.

"As they say - the "truck boom" is over. Sanctioning violators is an important step in the fight against road traffic injuries, because overloaded trucks are extremely risky participants in traffic," Nankov points out.

"Stopping them is also important for preserving the road surface. It is designed for a certain carrying capacity and its use by overloaded trucks deforms it - we have all seen the "tracks" in the asphalt", writes Nikolay Nankov.

On October 15, 297 electronic tickets were issued to violators, and on October 16 - 147, according to data from the National Toll Administration.

According to the rules, violators have 14 days in which they can pay a compensatory fee of 1,200 leva to have the electronic ticket canceled.

If they do not do so, they are subject to a fine or property penalty of 3,000 leva for the first violation and 4,000 leva for each subsequent violation.
