"The demand of young doctors for adequate pay is brought to the forefront, but this is not their main demand. They are not fighting just for money". This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Dr. Miroslav Nenkov, former Deputy Minister of Health:
"Maybe, if you invite one of them, they will explain it on their behalf, I am not their spokesperson, but I know what is happening with the residents in hospitals. Maybe the most important thing in what young people want is attitude, a different kind of attitude towards them, not just money. Money is undoubtedly very important, but the attitude towards it, in a significant part of the structures where there are interns, they are used for unskilled labor, nothing more".
"If the healthcare budget is to become 12-13 billion, there will be no change, nor will young doctors be paid better or people like me, because there is an awful lot of stealing", the former deputy minister of health added in an interview for the "Nedelya 150" program on "Horizont":
"They steal with shovels, not with handfuls, that's why there is not enough money. If the money is spent by good managers, there will be some, there will be some. As patients, we will understand it immediately if these 9 billion are managed by a good manager".
"Young doctors have long stopped running away from Bulgaria for money. When they go abroad to work, the money they receive is more than in Bulgaria, but that is not enough for them there either, because the standard is different there. They are also fired from their jobs there, but they are taken care of and trained there," emphasized Dr. Nenkov.
