Strong southerly winds with gusts of up to 100 km/h are expected in the mountains of Western Bulgaria around October 24. This is happening just before the predicted cold snap, which will create a situation similar to a hair dryer, reported "Meteo Balkans".
After the wind intensifies, a cold front will pass through the country. In the Danube Plain, the wind will orient from the northwest and precipitation will begin.
According to the forecast, by the end of the day on October 24 (Friday), rain will fall over the entire country. In places, they will be accompanied by thunderstorms, and there will also be conditions for hail.
From "Meteo Balkans" explain that the strengthening of the southerly wind before the passage of a cold front is the result of the interaction of several meteorological factors.
The main reason is the difference in pressure. Cold fronts are usually associated with areas of low pressure in front of them and high pressure behind them. As the front approaches, the pressure gradient (difference) increases, which leads to an increase in winds.
If there are mountain barriers, such as Vitosha or the Vratsa Balkan, a manifestation of the wind as a foen will also be observed, add "Meteo Balkans".
