Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev commented on the attack on former deputy city prosecutor Ivo Iliev. In his words, “an attack on a prosecutor is an attack on the entire justice system”. Georgiev did not hide that he speaks to Iliev's wife several times a day, but refused to provide details of the investigation or the magistrate's condition.
The relevant minister also commented on the lack of an opinion from the Supreme Judicial Council on the act of violence: “A reaction from everyone is absolutely necessary. At the first moment, we from the Ministry of Justice, who represent the executive branch, reacted. In addition to us, the Association of Prosecutors of Bulgaria also reacted. The Prosecutor General met with the wife. A decisive resistance is needed from all of us - the Judicial College, the Prosecutor's Office, the Plenum - everyone along the chain”, Georgiev is categorical.
We recall that a masked man attacked the prosecutor with a hammer in the underground parking lot of his home. Ivo Iliev was admitted to the hospital, and the perpetrator is being sought.
“The various line ministers have been assigned tasks by the Prime Minister to analyze the new factual situation that has arisen regarding the sanctions - how and in what way this will affect Bulgarian citizens, the market and the necessary and adequate reactions from Bulgarian institutions. We have prepared to inform the Prime Minister, to hear what everyone has to say in their own line,”, pointed out the Minister of Justice.
He recalled that the Ministry of Justice is responsible for the Property and Commercial Registers. “The sanctions provide for restrictions on disposal transactions with the property of both parent companies and subsidiaries. What we have done is an analysis of the subsidiaries, their structure and whether or not they fall within the scope, so that we can react to possible applications on the accounts for an attempt to change ownership”, explained Georgiev.
According to him, the Ministry of Justice has been notified more than once of various attempts to circumvent the sanctions. “We monitor everything in real time. The information system of the Commercial Register is an element of the critical infrastructure of the state and is a matter of national security”, the minister emphasized. He stated that both the Burgas refinery and several subsidiaries representing the “Lukoil” group in our country fall within the scope of the sanctions.
This year there has been an unprecedented number of signals and inspections – over 80, for the activities of notaries in our country. Specific disciplinary sanctions have already been proposed for 8 of them. The rights of four notaries are about to be revoked, the minister emphasized. “The Ministry of Justice has not declared war on the Notary Chamber, but relies on it to guarantee the security, stability and property of citizens”, explained Georgiev.
