The Municipal Council in Karlovo will vote today on a procedure for the land on which the new gunpowder plant, co-owned by VMZ-Sopot and the German company "Rheinmetall" will be built, BNR reported.
The contract between the two companies was signed on Tuesday and contains plans for the production of 155-millimeter artillery shells as well.
The Executive Director of VMZ-Sopot Ivan Getsov has announced a procedure for changing the purpose of the property. Currently, the land has the status of a forest territory - public state property, specified the mayor of Karlovo Emil Kabaivanov, who is the submitter of the report included in the agenda of the municipal session.
1 billion euros will be invested in the construction of the new plant, it became clear when the contract was signed. 1,000 jobs are expected to be created.
The land is 518 decares and is located near the Karlovo village of Karnare.
During the voting in the municipal council, supporters of "Vazrazhdane" organized a protest demanding that a public discussion of the project be held.
