The euro is not just a currency, it is a strategic choice that strengthens Bulgaria's place at the heart of a united and strong Europe. This was stated by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov in a speech during the high-level conference "Bulgaria on the Threshold of the Eurozone". The event is organized by the Ministry of Finance (MF) and the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) and takes place at the "Boyana" residence. The forum is part of the communication campaign for the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria from January 1, 2026.
Our goal is not accession, our goal is to be part of the eurozone, the Prime Minister said. In his words, this means full participation in the European economic architecture.
Today, Bulgaria stands on the threshold of an important moment in its historical development. From January 1, Bulgaria will become part of the family of countries that have adopted the euro as their currency, not as a foreign one, which unites over 340 million citizens in more than 20 European countries, Zhelyazkov also stated.
