“Bulgaria has proven to be a reliable partner and a promising market. We are ready to build on cooperation with the German economy through real projects. I believe that the coming months will be a time for concrete actions“, said Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov during his meeting with representatives of the Eastern Commission of the German Economy.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Zhelyazkov emphasized that Germany is a leading trade and economic partner and one of the most significant investors in Bulgaria. Over the past decade, bilateral trade between the two countries has been steadily growing and reaching record levels. Over the past 30 years, trade has increased 16 times, and Bulgarian exports – 23 times.

„Bulgaria values the long-standing partnership with the German economy. Your companies are among the most significant investors and employers in our country. It is a strategic goal for us to deepen this cooperation – through trust, stability and predictability“, said the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov emphasized that German investments in Bulgaria as of the second quarter of 2025 amounted to 4.129 billion euros. The largest investments are concentrated in the automotive, mechanical engineering, trade, electronics and electrical engineering sectors, with a significant part of German companies producing and exporting products with high added value.

Prime Minister Zhelyazkov assured representatives of German business that the Bulgarian government is pursuing consistent policies to support business, transparency and a stable economic environment. “Bulgaria remains fully committed to adopting the euro, and German support in this process is strategically important. Our country's full membership in Schengen and entry into the Eurozone will facilitate trade relations and expand partnerships between business representatives“, the Prime Minister also pointed out.

The topics discussed included the digitalization of enterprises, increasing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized companies, reducing the administrative burden and addressing regional imbalances. Prime Minister Zhelyazkov stressed that joining the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development remains a priority for the government, with the competent institutions actively working on the accession reviews.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev, Minister of Economy and Industry Petar Dilov and Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth Martin Danovski.

The Eastern Commission of the German Economy is the main regional initiative of German business for 29 countries from Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization assists German companies in the implementation of projects, facilitates contacts and promotes investments in the region, in close cooperation with the German federal government and partner countries.
