An action by the State Directorate of Internal Revenue, National Revenue Agency and Bulgarian Anti-Fraud Agency under the leadership and supervision of the Bulgarian Anti-Fraud Agency was taken today in connection with a signal of tax fraud. It has been established that a company operating a meat processing plant also operates two warehouses. Inspections are being carried out in the three premises, and nearly 9 tons of meat have been found in the plant, for which the necessary documents have not been provided, and its origin is also unclear. In one of the warehouses in the “Slatina“ district, the meat found so far is 26 tons.

The quantity in the other is in the process of being established, announced at a briefing by the Director of the State Directorate of Internal Revenue, Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov. The premises are sealed and there is no danger that the meat will be distributed in the retail network until its origin is clarified, explained Prosecutor Desislava Petrova from the Sofia Police Department.

The actions of the colleagues were taken in connection with a signal from the Directorate of Internal Affairs. In the course of joint activities with the National Revenue Agency and the Bulgarian Food and Drug Administration, data checks for possible tax crimes are being carried out in the retail outlets, with follow-up actions expected tomorrow. In the course of work today, the Bulgarian Food and Drug Administration employees identified irregularities in the storage and cutting of the meat, on the basis of which the workshop will be sealed until it is brought into a condition for carrying out this type of activity.

The two huge warehouses on the territory of the Sofia Stock Exchange will also be sealed. We expect to receive the available documentation in the coming days, with the assistance of both institutions, so that we can report the documents in their entirety to the State Police, Nikolov added, adding that there are currently no detainees, as the role and possible involvement of the owner in the specific crimes under investigation has not yet been accurately established.

In the course of the procedural and investigative actions carried out, the amount of meat was specified and currently it is over 70 tons in total - in the workshop and in both warehouses.
