We will prepare, with the help of experts, amendments to the Road Traffic Act, with which we will eliminate the average speed limit as dangerous for drivers, because it causes more deaths, said the chairman of "Vazrazhdane" Kostadin Kostadinov in a statement from the parliamentary rostrum.
According to him, the large-scale changes to the Road Traffic Act, which were adopted in September with the aim of reducing road casualties, have produced the opposite of the expected results, as the number of victims has increased.
Kostadinov is of the opinion that the new measures have mainly led to a sharp increase in fines, rather than to an increase in road safety. In just one month, over 33,000 drivers were fined, about 40% of them foreigners. The total number of violations now exceeds one million, which, according to Kostadinov, means that almost every second driver has been fined.
The leader of "Vazrazhdane" accused the state of using the law to collect more revenue instead of saving human lives.
He described the traffic police as "saboteurs hiding in the bushes".
