Burgas Airport is closing for a 6-month reconstruction and replacement of the runway pavement. An official ceremony will be held to launch construction activities. 50 million euros is the investment in one of the largest infrastructure projects to be implemented by the concessionaire of the sea station - the German consortium "Fraport Twin Star Airport Management."
This was indicated by the Bulgarian National Radio.
Today marks 19 years since the start of the concession of Burgas Airport. Today is the day chosen for the start of construction activities on the large-scale project for the reconstruction of the airport's runway.
The old runway was built 46 years ago. It has a concrete surface and is the longest on the Balkan Peninsula. New modern technology will now be used to replace the old pavement, explains the airport's executive director Vasil Atanasov.
The first flights on the new runway are planned for May 1st next year. The runway reconstruction project was prepared by specialists with international experience for 5 years. 150 workers are involved in the construction activities.
