The imposition of sanctions for unjustified price increases begins. The adaptation period, during which institutions only issued prescriptions, has ended and effective inspections are already underway. This became clear at the meeting of the Euro Mechanism convened by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.
The focus of the inspectors is on essential goods, requiring full information about the reasons for any price increases. More than 250 traders are being inspected throughout the country. Currently, 65 cases of unjustified price increases have been identified and the sanctioning process is already underway. Prime Minister Zhelyazkov emphasized compliance with the provisions of the Euro Adoption Act and ordered further intensification of inspections.
Within the framework of the Euro Mechanism, the NRA will report on imposed sanctions after all data has been summarized. The CPC also monitors price movements and processes the information provided by traders for the platform “Kolko struv“ (Kolkostruva.bg).
The progress of the communication campaign for the euro was also reported during today's meeting. Over 420 conferences and information events have already been held with local authorities, citizens, businesses and vulnerable groups throughout the country - in regional centers and smaller settlements. A large part of the ministries organized and participated in thematic conferences and events on the effects of the introduction of the euro for the relevant stakeholders by sector, their number being nearly 90.
A positive trend in public attitudes towards the adoption of the single European currency has been reported as a result of the government's comprehensive approach. With the increase in awareness, the share of Bulgarian citizens fully supporting the introduction of the euro is increasing, which is a clear sign of the direction and attitudes in society.
