The Energy Committee in the National Assembly overcame the President's veto - 1

The Energy Committee in the National Assembly overcame the President's veto on the amendments to the Law on the Administrative Regulation of Economic Activities Related to Oil and Oil Products, in connection with the management of the assets of "Lukoil" in Bulgaria - the refinery in Burgas. This happened with 12 votes “for” and 3 “against”.

We recall that earlier today, the Head of State Rumen Radev imposed a veto and announced that the changes to the law lead to the undermining of the legal order in the country, contradict basic European legal norms and pose a high risk to public finances. He condemns the cancellation of administrative and judicial control over the acts of officials and over the contracts concluded by the special manager, as according to him this "impermissibly violates the constitutional right to protection".

This immediately caused a backlash in parliament and an extraordinary meeting of the relevant committee was convened.

"President Rumen Radev's motives for vetoing the Law on the Administrative Regulation of Economic Activities Related to Oil and Petroleum Products are very clear and categorical - protecting the interests of Bulgaria, guaranteeing statehood against any attempt at abuse and the opportunity to return the discussion on the future of the refinery to the National Assembly". Vice President Iliana Yotova stated this to journalists in Ruse.
