The waste crisis in the Sofia region "Lyulin" is not over, it is returning in full force, said the mayor of the region Georgi Todorov at a briefing at the Sofia Municipal Council (SOC).
According to Todorov, the situation with garbage collection in the area has worsened in the last 10 days. A lot of garbage is accumulating again, and snow is expected next week, which could further worsen the situation.
The contracts for garbage collection in "Poduyane", "Slatina" and "Izgrev" expire on November 30, this Sunday. According to Todorov, this raises concerns that the little available equipment will be directed to these three regions.
In the "Lyulin" region, there are 1,500 containers, the mayor announced. Each one of them must be thrown out every day so that there is no crisis with garbage, and this is not happening.
The district mayor pointed out that a snow removal schedule is usually signed in October, but this has not yet been done. According to Todorov, in a snowy situation for the "Lyulin" region, at least six large snowplows are ready.
