The protest was with a lot of people. We are wide-eyed about what is happening. In the coalition, this was the only possible budget. After we saw the dissatisfaction from unions and employers, we agreed to make changes to the budget. This was stated by the leader of the UDF, Rumen Hristov, to BNT.
According to him, it was expected that the demands would escalate: “The opposition has the right to organize protests, we cannot be angry that people have gathered and are protesting. The point was that the protest should be peaceful.”
According to him, all of the PP-DB's proposals for the budget cannot be accepted: “If you want such changes – you win the elections and you make them happen.”
„The impatience of the opposition and clearing the way for Rumen Radev is what pushes so many people to the streets. Maybe colleagues from other formations do not realize it, but in early elections he will appear on the field. The question is not whether we remain in government, but what is the alternative”, he believes.
When asked where the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov is, the leader of the UDF commented: „He is here, wherever he is. I am not strong in this area, who governs, how he governs. I do not want to blame the professional leadership, but it is not the minister who moves the groups from this boulevard to this street. The minister should be held directly responsible, given that he has professional leadership…”
„We stand behind Mitov, he is our proposal. Respected colleague, he has my trust. Personally, we will not ask him to resign,” he is categorical.
“We need at least half a year of a stable government after entering the eurozone. If the dissatisfaction does not decrease, then we will make a decision“, Hristov also said.
“Those who are protesting should be satisfied that there will not be such a loss of funds they receive”, he stressed.
