Petko Georgiev: I am skeptical that a new quality budget will be prepared - 1

Journalist Petko Georgiev commented on “Crossroads“ on NOVA on the political situation after the mass protests and the withdrawal of the budget, emphasizing that the “Zhelyazkov“ cabinet is in deep isolation. He described the government as one that “very quickly loses the ability to actually push through any policy that would enjoy the support of Bulgarian citizens“.

The journalist said he remained skeptical that a quality new budget would be prepared.

According to him, the cabinet will try to survive, but the question is to what extent this is in the country's interest.

“They will do everything possible, I am sure. How positive this is for Bulgaria, I am not so sure. It is just that this suffering can be continued for some time“, he explained.

Georgiev added that the argument that the government should remain because of the introduction of the euro is becoming increasingly untenable.

“We are practically already in the eurozone. Just imagine the situation after January 1, when we are already in the eurozone. This last argument is out of the question. Prices are going up anyway, discontent continues to grow," Georgiev added.

Regarding the distancing between GERB and "DPS - New Beginning", Georgiev said that this process is coming too late.

„I am afraid that it is too late for Borisov. He had enough chances. If he had wanted to and if he could, he would have distanced himself from DPS by now," he added.

He believes that the ruling party will try all sorts of maneuvers to stay in power, including personnel reshuffles and reformatting the majority. He stressed that President Rumen Radev cannot be an alternative.

Georgiev described the budget as the "spark" that ignited the accumulated public discontent.
