Egypt is a key and strategic partner of Bulgaria in the Middle East and North Africa region. This was stated by the Minister of Economy and Industry Petar Dilov, who held meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Industry of Egypt Kamel al-Wazir, coordinating the activities of all ministries with economic portfolios, and the Minister of Defense and Military Production Gen. Abdul Majid Saqr.
During the meetings in Cairo, the possibilities for deepening industrial cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interest, such as the automotive sector, defense industry and transport, were discussed.
It was emphasized that in 2026 Bulgaria and Egypt celebrate 100 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations – a partnership that has established itself as a strategic priority for both countries in recent decades.
"Egypt is the largest trading partner of our country in the Middle East and Africa region," emphasized Minister Dilov.
At the meetings, it was pointed out that economic relations between the two countries have been increasingly active in recent years, developing on a stable basis.
During the meeting with the Minister of Defense and Military Production of Egypt, Gen. Sakr noted that there has been a significant increase in bilateral trade in defense products.
The possibility of strengthening cooperation in a number of areas of military production between the two countries, technology transfer and expertise was also discussed.
Minister Sakr pointed out that Bulgaria is a friendly country, and that Egypt values good cooperation.
The bilateral meeting was held at the International Defense Industry Exhibition “EDEX 2025“, in which 10 Bulgarian defense industry companies are participating this year.
Minister Dilov congratulated the Egyptian minister on the good organization of "EDEX 2025" and invited him to visit the International Defense Equipment and Services Exhibition "Hemus" , which will be held in Plovdiv from June 3 to 6 in Plovdiv.
The meetings were also attended by the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Egypt Deyan Katrachev.
