The Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev responded to the allegations made in recent days against him and the municipality team by the mayor of the "Lyulin" district, Georgi Todorov.
Terziev said that he was tired of hearing how "the mayor of Lyulin is always blamed by someone else". "He was always not helped, there was always no dialogue. There is dialogue - there is no work", the mayor emphasized.
He recalled that the "Lyulin" district has been provided with over 600 thousand leva specifically for cleanliness activities, but despite this, the results are lacking. This is also the largest amount provided to any of the five districts in which a temporary garbage collection organization is implemented after the expiration of the permanent contracts.
The Municipality emphasizes that as of December 1, garbage collection in “Lyulin” has been assigned to the municipal company “Sofekostroy“, after in October the Sofia Municipal Council voted an additional budget of 9 million leva to increase the company's capacity and to guarantee continuity and quality of service for the residents of the district.
In his statement today, Mayor Terziev assured that all available resources are being mobilized to clean the neighborhood as soon as possible, and with fewer funds than those provided to the district administration. “Simply because it is possible - when we have the will and character”, he emphasized. More equipment is currently being collected, the most problematic points are being identified and additional outside help is being organized.
The mayor extended special thanks to the dozens of volunteers from “Lyulin“, who are once again actively involved in the cleanup. This Saturday they are organizing a new large-scale volunteer campaign, which the Sofia Municipality and “Sofekostroy“ will support with equipment, teams and additional resources. “I will personally participate in the field cleanup and invite anyone who has complaints to come and share them with me in person“, Terziev urged.
He emphasized that in difficult moments it is clear who is working how. The mayor of the capital pointed out the mayors of “Izgrev”, “Poduyane” and “Slatina” – Delyan Georgiev, Kristiyan Hristov and Georgi Iliev as an example of active and consistent field work, “day after day“, with organization, machines and daily actions for the benefit of people.
“The choice before all of us is whether we will be a society of grumblers, skeptics and cynics, or people who hold their lives and their city in their own hands. I have made my choice and I will continue to defend it“, Terziev concludes.
