“We are currently living in a political earthquake – something we did not expect to happen until now“, said on “This Morning“ on bTV Rumyana Bachvarova, diplomat and former interior minister.

“One of the most significant phenomena as a consequence of the protests is the crack in the MRF. Exit of some of the leaders, dissatisfaction. Young people from this ethnic group who are protesting against Peevski. This is a big change for Bulgarian society and it simply cannot go away“, said the diplomat.

“There is no way our state and society will be the same after these events“, believes Bachvarova.

According to her, the most logical outcome is to have a work plan that can be agreed upon between the ruling party and the opposition – what should happen in the coming months and to indicate a period in which the next elections should be held.

“The resignation of the government is the unlocking of this situation. The only useful move that Borisov and Peevski have is to seek new legitimacy again in elections, because trust has been exhausted“, is the opinion of Rumyana Bachvarova.

According to her, the question is whether Borisov will comply with the collective decision of the party, or will he come to an agreement with Peevski.

“Maybe both in some combination. I don't know what their relationship is after these events. But stubbornness can no longer solve any problem, it only deepens the crisis in society“, the diplomat believes.

“The “Borisov“ model, the “Peevski“ model is in practice an absolute shake-up in the hierarchy of power, against which people are protesting. It lies in the fact that we may have a prime minister, but he is not fully fulfilling his functions. We have a government that supports a small number of deputies, but wants all the power to govern. And this is the biggest problem“, commented Rumyana Bachvarova.

“For me, this protest is a protest for the future of our country,” she said.
