The next caretaker cabinet will be under the completely new rules, which I have criticized and I think that the changes in the Constitution regarding the caretaker cabinet were not particularly meaningful. We will see it literally in the coming weeks, as there is some uncertainty about who will take over this position and it will not be easy for the president - this is what he commented in the studio of "The Day Begins with Georgi Lyubenov" former Deputy Prime Minister for the Management of European Funds in several caretaker governments Atanas Pekanov.
"The President is an institutional person and he will act according to the current rules, although I think they are stupid. Last time we saw what problems there were when Ms. Kozhareva was to be appointed, there were not the best proposals and that is why it came to Mr. Glavchev again. In the current situation there is an even bigger problem because the protests pushed the government, but according to the new constitutional norm the government, i.e. people appointed by the current government, one of them will become the next prime minister. So it's definitely not an easy situation," Pekanov stressed.
According to him, the election of a caretaker prime minister and the appointment of a caretaker cabinet are not in the hands of the president, but in the hands of people appointed by the current government.
He also said that he was impressed and pleased with the protests and pointed out that "the square and the unification of all Bulgarians built a cordon sanitaire against the impudence and arrogance in power and that won":
"But from here on comes the difficult part. It is true that from here on we do not know what lies ahead. The resignation of the government surprised us a little, although a week ago: if the parties in power think carefully, they should make the right decision to stay on the right side of history, and not drag it out and further worsen the situation in the country. When thousands, thousands of people come out to the square - young, old, left, right, with all kinds of understandings, you have no other choice but to resign."
Atanas Pekanov added that in this sense the government has made the right, albeit belated, decision.
