Bulgaria will participate with its flag and anthem at the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, the Secretary General of the BOC under the leadership of Stefka Kostadinova - Belcho Goranov is certain, sportal.bg reported.
He explained that the last meeting of the IOC Executive Committee took place last week and "such a punishment was not imposed".
Belcho Goranov was a guest at the annual award ceremony of the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation in the "Diana" hall on Tuesday.
Asked if it is possible for Bulgaria to remain without a flag at the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, which the elected chairwoman of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Vessela Lecheva, warns about, Goranov replied: "No, it can't happen. I'm sure of it. She may say otherwise, but the last IOC Executive Board was on December 9-10, and no such punishment has been imposed".
Goranov also spoke about the issue of the public procurement for the equipment of the members of the delegation for the Winter Olympics. He stated that the same company clothes the ski federation's competitors, and the equipment must meet certain conditions. This is precisely what makes the price significantly higher than the standard one.
"There is a public procurement that was won by a company that is proven on the Bulgarian market. It's not my problem (that one company showed up - ed.). Only the equipment for the delegation is paid for, and the rest is covered by the Bulgarian Olympic Committee. That is, if the delegation as a whole, with athletes, coaches and officials, is 50 people, we pay for 50 people", said Goranov.
"They don't seem expensive to me (the jackets). We have wonderful athletes who dress with the same company - from the ski federation. The clothes must meet certain conditions and be made exclusively for this delegation. Usually, large companies ask for 500, 1000 pieces, which we cannot afford. You know that the larger the number, the lower the price", he added.
