Former speaker of the National Assembly Iva Miteva stated in the studio of "Denyat ON AIR" that when there were two threats to her life, she gave up her security. Reform in the state security is one of her motives for coming to the protest, which is organized on December 18.
The protests continue
"The voice of the people must be heard. The Prosecutor General is illegally in this position. Where there are scandals, beatings, fights and insults, nothing good can happen. They still have a majority, the square with its energy managed to force the rulers to resign, which is no small feat," said Miteva.
In her words, the protests are not political, but in the name of justice.
"They really wanted this illegitimate parliament to end. People have woken up, they have realized that we should not fight about whether we are left or right, liberals or conservatives, but about choosing between personal freedom and the anthill of totalitarianism," said the former MP.
Caretaker government and early elections
Her expectations are that elections will be held at the end of March, if there is a caretaker cabinet at the end of January 2026, and then the ""untie the knot".
According to her, the most suitable person for a caretaker prime minister is the ombudsman.
"It is most appropriate, given the functions he has to protect fundamental rights and freedoms. He would do the best job and would protect the elections. "Yes" or "no" is not optional - when you take a position, you have to know what the challenges are. It is clear to everyone what position they are taking on," Miteva commented.
The collapse of the coalition
On the air of Bulgaria ON AIR, she described the coalition of GERB, ITN and BSP as a mistake.
"We still did not understand why they came together, when you form a coalition, you either do it with a specific goal, or for causes and ideas. We exclude the latter, the goal was to enter the Eurozone - they achieved it and they were there," said the former Speaker of the National Assembly.
Changes in the Electoral Code
Miteva called for no general changes to be made to the Electoral Code, so as not to create new "white" ones. There is no time for new machines, so machine voting will have to be done with the ones available from the previous elections.
"These people don't know "A" and "B" of the electoral process. This is scary, let alone touch it. They shouldn't open the Electoral Code so widely, because they will make whites, as they did in the Constitution," Iva Miteva urged.
