Babikyan: It was not the budget that brought people to the streets, but the behavior of the DPS-NN - 1

In the penultimate for 2025 "Forum" on the Bulgarian National Radio, the guest commentator is Arman Babikyan, known both from the squares with protesters and from the pages with analyses of the political situation.

He focused on the events of early December, which he shouted out quite quickly: the resignation of the government, the president's consultations with the political formations present in the current National Assembly, the expectations of the people and politicians for next year – the budget, the eurozone, "the inevitable evil" – caretaker government and early parliamentary elections next spring.

Babikyan noted: "The protest exceeded even the organizers' expectations. It was not its formal occasion - the budget - that brought people to the streets, but the behavior of the MRF-NN. The seconds before the budget vote said: We can govern without the opposition. Members of the MRF-NN did everything possible to infuriate the people. The good thing is that Bulgarian cities outside Sofia also caught fire. The protest is not only of 20-year-olds, but they are its most beautiful and rebellious face today. They should not be underestimated. Now they are taking their parents to the protest".

"The government has fallen, but the judicial system remains in control. Solidarity in the squares is extremely important. The Bulgarian citizen has outgrown his politicians. Each generation must pay its due for our democracy," he added.
