Restricting the movement of trucks on the highways - 1

During the weekends for the Christmas and New Year holidays, on certain days and hours, the movement of trucks over 12 tons is temporarily restricted on the "Trakia" and "Struma" highways - along their entire length, and on the "Hemus" highway in the section from Sofia to the "Dermantsi" subdivision in the Sofia and Lovech districts.

The goal is to facilitate the travel of passenger cars, to increase throughput and to increase traffic safety when many people are on the road. The introduction of the temporary traffic organization is necessary due to increased traffic, when the prerequisites for accidents are greater due to improper overtaking and the formation of columns of heavy trucks.

On December 30, the movement of heavy trucks will be stopped between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., and the restriction will apply to vehicles leaving Sofia.

On the last day off of the new year - January 4, 2026, the ban on the movement of vehicles over 12 tons will be between 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and will apply to vehicles traveling to Sofia.

The restriction does not apply to vehicles providing public passenger transport.

On the "Hemus" and "Struma" highways the ban does not cover vehicles over 12 tons carrying dangerous goods (ADR), live animals, perishable food products and temperature-controlled cargo and specialized carcass trucks.

On the "Trakia" motorway in the section from the "Ihtiman" motorway (at km 34) to the "Vakarel" motorway (at km 23) in the direction of Sofia, the ban will not apply to vehicles over 12 tons carrying dangerous goods.

Drivers can use other republican roads as alternative detour routes, while respecting the permanent traffic organization in force for them.

The "Road Infrastructure" Agency appeals to drivers to set off with vehicles prepared for winter conditions. Drivers are required to drive with increased caution and at a reasonable speed, keeping a safe distance, not making sudden maneuvers, and not overtaking specialized machines that process pavements.
