We would like the peace agreement to be reached quickly, but this is a complicated process. There are negotiations and they are serious. I did not expect a result now. This was stated by former Foreign and Social Minister Ivaylo Kalfin on BNT.
„Trump and Zelensky announced that the guarantees have been largely agreed. We understood that Russia does not agree to a ceasefire during which Ukraine would hold a referendum“, he emphasized.
He is also categorical: „It is obvious that Ukraine will make greater compromises than Russia. Ukraine is undoubtedly in a more disadvantageous position. From now on, the resolution of the conflict depends on how the two presidents will present it to their countries.”
According to him, Russia's involvement in the reconstruction of Ukraine can only happen with reparations, but this is unlikely.
„Europe has never been a defensive alliance. The US holds many more instruments related to military-political aspects, and they also want to clear their way for good business with Russia. Russia is rich in natural resources, not particularly strong technologically, and this is a good opportunity for the US to take advantage of“, added Kalfin.
Regarding the elections in our country, he specified: „We are missing the opportunity for Bulgaria to have long-term policies.“
