In connection with the introduction of the euro as the official currency in Bulgaria and the resulting technological and technical adjustments, as of December 31, 2025 and January 1, 2026, card payments for fines under the Road Traffic Act (RTA) will not be accepted through the POS terminal devices installed at the border checkpoints, the "Border Police" announced, quoted by dariknews.bg.
They specified that payments will be made in other ways provided for in the regulations.
Use only official exchange points – banks or post offices, where during the first six months the exchange will be free of charge, the Ministry of Interior indicated on the occasion of the official introduction of the euro as the currency in our country from January 1, 2026. It is expected that then the post offices will be patrolled by uniformed and police patrols. Teams of the “Security Police” in the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs and the Regional Directorates of the Ministry of Interior will be assisted by the Gendarmerie to maintain public order around post offices throughout the country.
Drivers, attention: The Ministry of Interior portal and POS terminals will be temporarily suspended due to the euro
Be careful, beware of fraud during the introduction of the euro, the Ministry of Interior warned and urged that if there is suspicion of fraud or other abuse, we immediately report it to 112 or visit the nearest structure of the ministry.
