From January 1, the introduction of the euro poses serious challenges for gas stations, NOVA reported. Payments, returning change and working with two currencies pose a risk of difficulties for both traders and customers.

According to Angel Dimitrov, who owns a small gas station in Montana, people with bags full of pennies came to fill up with fuel. "They probably had small savings and since they no longer need them, they started getting rid of the coins. This is a bit unpleasant and a burden for the workers, but they are still a means of payment", he pointed out.

Regarding the readiness for the new currency and possible concerns, Dimitrov pointed out that entering the eurozone is too big an event to be overshadowed. "There will inevitably be cases that we will have to resolve at the moment, but we will cope with joint efforts. We received a starter pack of euro coins and banknotes from our servicing bank. It is difficult to estimate what quantities will be needed, we decided not to block funds by purchasing a large amount of euros too early. After midnight, our system is automatically set to switch to operating mode in the new currency", the businessman announced.

According to him, the fuel bill can be paid in a combination of euros and leva, but for this purpose it must be warned in order to calculate the total value in euros. He explained that from January 1, only the value of the fuel filled in euros will be displayed on the columns.
