Two Irish tourists are fighting for their lives after a serious traffic accident in the Borovets resort complex. The incident occurred in the early hours of January 23.
Around 04:20, the police station in the resort received a report of pedestrians being hit. The teams that arrived on the scene found that a car had hit a man and a woman who were walking on the road. The injured are Irish citizens and are hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Investigations are continuing within the framework of the pre-trial proceedings initiated in the case, the press center of the Sofia police announced.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, the Ministry of Interior refuses to provide information about the identity of the driver, as well as whether he was tested for alcohol and drugs. The lack of details three days after the incident increases doubts about the circumstances of the accident.
Borovets, which is among the most visited winter destinations, often becomes the scene of incidents due to the combination of drunk drivers, poor lighting and the lack of pedestrian areas outside the central part.
