Kiril Petkov will not be a candidate for MP in the upcoming elections. He announced this on social networks.
The news, which he described as an artificially created sensation, is actually a confirmation of his old promise. “When I resigned six months ago and stated that I would not be in parliament, I did not do it as a political “trick“, but as a clear position and assumed political responsibility“, he said.
Petkov explained his decision with the desire to show a different model of behavior. “Apparently, no one expects a politician to keep his word... I am not a politician who revolves around his words and principles. I have never been like that and I never will be“, the former prime minister is categorical.
He used his position to put an end to speculation about a split in the ranks of the PP. “The other madness I read today is that there would be a new political project. I am not and will not be a traitor to the party I created. I am a member of the National Council of “We continue the change“ and I will continue to help the party, without being on the lists or under the media spotlight. This is my team!“
According to him, the effectiveness of a politician is not limited to the parliamentary seat. “When the cause is a mission, not a political career or a strategy for personal survival, there are many ways to support - and sometimes even more effective than the parliamentary bench“, Petkov points out.
In conclusion, he adds that together with his colleagues he will continue to work for the country: “We will all continue to work for the cause of Bulgaria - also through our personal projects that have a social meaning and will contribute to change.“
