Assen Vassilev: April 19 is the earliest possible date for elections - 1

The date of March 29 is no longer a realistic option for holding the elections. The calendar shows that April 19 is currently the earliest normal date for the vote, announced the co-chair of "We Continue the Change" Assen Vassilev after consultations with Vice President Iliana Yotova.

"As far as we can see, there are five candidates for caretaker prime minister – four of them are directly related to Delyan Peevski", said Bozhidar Bozanov from "Democratic Bulgaria". He stressed that since the protests have "thrown away this particular model", it would not be wise for him to govern through a caretaker cabinet.

According to Assen Vassilev, the choice of date is entirely within the president's authority, but the formation insists on guaranteeing fair elections. Vassilev specified that he does not believe that Rumen Radev intentionally delayed the procedure, but the technical deadlines already require the vote to be held after Easter.

PP-DB emphasized the need for a neutral interior minister in order to avoid suspicions of a controlled vote. According to Ivaylo Mirchev, the main task of the future government should be "turning off the tap of the corruption model".

Vice President Iliana Yotova, who is leading the consultations with the second-largest parliamentary group, called for statesmanship and finding a way out of the political spiral the country is in.
