A police officer in Dimigrovgrad was slightly injured by a 74-year-old driver who had tried to avoid a traffic violation, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (ODMVR) in Haskovo reported.
The incident, which occurred at around 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, occurred after a patrol car from the Dimitrovgrad police department registered a car parked on a boulevard in oncoming traffic. When entering traffic, its driver crossed the double continuous line. Uniformed police officers found that the same driver had been fined minutes earlier in another place for improper parking. Probably to avoid a new sanction, the driver attempted to evade control, in which he tripped a senior police officer. The offender was immediately detained for up to 24 hours, a report was drawn up and pre-trial proceedings were initiated.
According to data from the Haskovo Regional Department of Internal Affairs and Traffic Police, over the past week, traffic police officers in the region have drawn up a total of 109 reports and 756 tickets for violators of the Road Traffic Act. Four serious traffic accidents were registered, with one person dead and four injured.
