The BSP Congress will discuss the change of the chairman and changes to the party's Statute, the delegates decided at the beginning of the party forum, BTA reports.
The item on changes to the Statute was included in the agenda of the Congress session at the proposal of the chairwoman of the All-Party Control Commission Gergana Aleksova. She explained that the changes are related to the cancellation of the direct election for the chairman of the BSP at the previous session of the Congress.
The agenda, which was adopted with 585 votes “for“, without “against“ and with two votes “abstain“, also includes an analysis of the participation of “BSP-United Left“ in the 51st National Assembly and in the government of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, adoption of a platform for the next elections, early termination of the powers of the BSP chairman and election of the party chairman.
The BSP Congress will meet today and tomorrow at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. At the beginning, 689 delegates registered and BSP chairman Atanas Zafirov announced that the meeting can begin. Guests of the forum are representatives of parties from “BSP-United Left“ and trade unions. In the hall are the chairman of ABV Rumen Petkov and the president of Bulgaria from 2002 to 2012 Georgi Parvanov, as well as the chairman of “Bulgarian Social Democracy - Euroleft“ Alexander Tomov.
Before its beginning, delegates to the Congress expressed to journalists expectations for a change of the chairman of the BSP. Among the nominees from the party conferences for the leadership post are Krum Zarkov, Borislav Gutsanov, Gabriel Valkov, Kaloyan Pargov, Kristian Vigenin, Ivan Takov and Atanas Zafirov.
