Today I am taking a step back, I am giving up the place of first among equals, the place that you gave me, but this does not mean that I am withdrawing from politics and in no way distancing myself from responsibility. This was stated by the Chairman of the BSP Atanas Zafirov to the delegates of the 51st Congress of the party, quoted by BTA.
I am submitting my resignation, but not because I am betraying you or denying what has been achieved. On the contrary, I am proud of the results of this one year, said Zafirov and added that I will defend these achievements, regardless of whether as Chairman or ordinary member. He indicated that he was resigning because he did not want to participate in the process of dividing the BSP.
Atanas Zafirov noted that the leadership issue is not the most important issue facing the BSP, but the most important issue is the question of the path. I am staying to help find this path, he added.
"Thank you! It was an honor for me, I will always be by your side", Zafirov concluded his speech to the delegates. Then, to applause, he left the podium.
