Three candidates remain for BSP chairman hours before the delegates to the 51st party congress begin voting for a new leader, but two are the favorites - former acting justice minister Krum Zarkov and current social minister Borislav Gutsanov. The third name that is still in the game is former MP Rusi Statkov, reported "24 Chasa".
Earlier today, the current chairman of the party, Atanas Zafirov, announced that he is resigning. It should be confirmed by the congress delegates at any moment.
52 names were submitted as nominations at the beginning of the congress, a large number of them began to withdraw. Kaloyan Pargov and Dragomir Stoynev did so from the podium. Later, the leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party in Sofia, Kaloyan Pargov, the youth chairman Gabriel Valkov, and others made their withdrawals.
The vote is scheduled for tonight.
