The workers at the pulp mill in Svishtov are protesting today. They have not received their salaries since September last year. The mill is not operating due to a lack of raw materials.

Of the 460 workers and employees at "Svilocel", more than 200 have voluntarily left work for several months. The rest go to work, but do not produce anything. There is no imminent mass layoff announced, nor has a bankruptcy procedure been initiated. The last time people took 1,000 leva was in September last year.

"We have had a problem with salaries at "Svilocel" since September. Not a single lev has been transferred to our accounts.

People are protesting and demanding to know when they will receive their money and when cellulose production will resume.

The company's management said that there is no clarity. "Svilocel" and the other companies from "Svilosa" in Svishtov have stopped working due to turmoil in the industry, expensive raw materials and the inability to sell production.

A month ago, the company's owner Krasimir Dachev told the Bulgarian National Radio:

"The workers will be paid as they are. Whoever wants to stay, whoever wants to leave. There is no way I can pay because the factory is no longer operating".

Dachev's promise was that he would try to restore production in January, which did not happen.
