Stolichna Municipality continues the modernization of public transport with digital solutions.
By the end of March, a mobile application will be launched, through which the public transport card can be digitized and added to an electronic wallet, the Sofia Municipality announced.
Plastic remains a valid way to travel, but citizens will have the opportunity to register their card through the application, use it via a mobile phone or smartwatch and validate it with one touch.
The application will allow online loading of all types of transport documents - personalized and non-personalized, as well as automatic renewal. This will facilitate the service process and reduce the need for visits to counters.
Validation remains mandatory – it guarantees the accountability of the system and travel security.
At the next stage, real-time information about the movement and arrival of vehicles will be integrated. Open data of public transport already creates a technological opportunity for such functionalities.
In parallel with digitalization, the expansion of the metro continues. Three new metro stations will be put into operation by August 31.
Funds have been secured for salaries in the sector until the end of March, and active talks are underway to ensure sustainable funding throughout the year.
No increase in the prices of transport documents will be allowed.
