The level of the Tundzha River near Elhovo is rising after the heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. The situation is being monitored continuously, the mayor of the Elhovo municipality, Petar Gendov, told BTA. According to him, at the moment the level is still far from the critical 3.95 meters.
„In the morning it was 2.55 meters. In the afternoon the river had fallen by 60-70 centimeters, but after the snow melted it rose again. "We are in constant contact with the mayors of villages near dams," the mayor of Elhovo said.
The municipal administration has also received a letter from the Ministry of Environment and Waters warning of expected high levels of the Tundzha River, Gendov added.
According to the forecast of the early warning system for the watersheds of the Maritsa and Tundzha rivers at the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, the water level in the city area is expected to reach the orange warning threshold at around 10:00 p.m., according to a message on the Elhovo Municipality website.
„An organization has been created, people from the settlements along the river have been warned. We have also warned those who have animals to take them out of the area around the river," the mayor of Elhovo emphasized.
